My boyfriend and I are on the longest, most mind-numbing drive of our lives and need something to listen to something completely out of left field. No music. We’re talking art, but specifically the beautifully unhinged kind: cringe, weird, wild, and gloriously entertaining. Audiobook or physical read, doesn’t matter. We’re open to everything shifters, vampires, billionaire CEOs, furry chaos, you name it. The trashier and more delightfully absurd, the better. Hard no on anything involving minors — everything else is fair game. Give us the full spectrum of degenerate literature.

    1. I’m thinking you’re looking for anything Christopher Moore.

Lamb and A Dirty Job are his best.

    5. Okay, you asked for trashy and delightfully absurd, so naturally I’m here with my top weird romance/erotica novels. If I’ve totally misread the room, I’m sure everyone else will have some classier suggestions. Here’s the trash:

      * Ice Planet Barbarians and its 20+ sequels by Ruby Dixon
      * If you’ve ever wanted the answer to the question of “What if I crash-landed on a planet full of 6’5″ jacked blue fuzzy aliens with >!huge dicks shaped like rabbit vibrators!< who are biologically hardwired to be completely obsessed and utterly devoted to a single woman?”
      * Content warning: some versions of the first book contain a pretty explicit sexual assault scene (not involving the eponymous barbarians), which can be skipped without missing much in terms of plot.
      * Do You Even Hex, Bro? and Do You Even Shift, Bro? by River Ramsey
      * Runaway witch meets himbo werewolf pack/frat. Her shitty ex >!gets his arm torn off by one of the wolves!< almost immediately, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Note that this is an unfinished series.
      * A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor and its sequels by Kathryn Moon
      * Scullery maid whose chief personality trait is being horny becomes a courtesan for a small harem of monster dudes. Esther knows what she wants, and what she wants is monster schlong.
      * The Queen’s Line and its sequels by Kathryn Moon
      * A rare reverse harem novel with a demisexual protagonist. The magic of the kingdom depends on its queen being horny and fucking nasty. But oh no! The princess-to-be can’t get horny for randoms! What will she do?
      * Contains like, so much sex, and also, pretty compelling worldbuilding and a surprisingly tender examination of grief.
      * Really, anything by Kathryn Moon is a safe bet.
      * Initiation and its sequels by Alethea Faust
      * I’m afraid I’m going to start to get a reputation around here as ‘that person who’s always recommending the sex wizards books’ but I will never stop recommending the sex wizards books.
      * Country boy discovers magical academy full of wizards who cast spells through kinky sex. Country boy discovers he quite likes all the kinky sex, actually, and sticks around for the plot.
      * Unfinished series with the final book releasing this year.
      * Filthy Rich Santas by Eva Ashwood
      * I have no explanation for why I picked this book up. But it’s surprisingly sweet, and well-written for what it is. Billionaire CEO why-choose where the billionaires in question run a kink club.
