(I tagged “Horror” because it’s my favorite genre and I had to choose something— this comment/question isn’t specific to any particular genre other than general fiction, though.)

When was the last time we had a truly exciting, everyone-is-talking-about-it book series, either groundbreaking or trashy? Like Harry Potter was (despite what we now know about the author) or The Hunger Games. Twilight, maybe, even 50 Shades of Gray!
I can’t think of the last time there was a real pop culture buzz about a book series. The one example I can think of is the Sarah Maas Court of Thorns and Roses books. Am I totally out of touch (in which case, suggestions welcomed!) or have fiction series kind of fallen off in the last few years?

feels like everything got split between streaming shows and tiktok these days, people don’t have same attention span for long series anymore
i work with my hands all day so audiobooks are my thing and even i notice less buzz around new releases. maybe we’re just getting older and not in right circles? remember when everyone was obsessed with those dystopian YA series after hunger games but now it’s all standalone books or like 3-book max
the sarah j maas thing is huge on booktok but feels very niche compared to how massive harry potter was
