Just finished Will of the Many and Strength of the Few and loved Vis as our main character. In the WotM especially I enjoyed his journey, the changing scenery (not a lover of a closed door setting), the challenges he faces, his friendships, and his time at the academy. Pleaseee for those who have read this, recommend me something that gave you a similar feeling!

More urban fantasy than high fantasy, but try Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. A new recruit to the Metropolitan Police force ends up in the department that deals with magic.
Haven’t read WotM, but The Amber Chronicles by Roger Zelazny should have you covered on the title requests. Well maybe not romance that much, but it’s not like it’s totally cold in that regard, either. The story starts from Nine Princes in Amber.
