I’ve been seeing a lot of lists around things like the Women’s Prize and “best books for women this year” and it made me curious what people actually think, not just curated lists
some of the popular picks lately include things like Girl, Woman, Other or The Handmaid’s Tale, but I’m more interested in what genuinely stood out to you personally
what’s one book you’d confidently put in that category and why did it hit for you?

Really loved *Lessons in Chemistry* this year – the whole thing about being underestimated in male-dominated field hit way too close to home as designer. Plus the main character has this no-bullshit attitude that I totally related to, especially when dealing with workplace nonsense.
The Echo Wife by Sara Gaily.
Great sci-fi novel and as someone who’s neurodivergent and found out the man she married was different than the man she fell in love with, it was quite cathartic.
Everyone Knows Your Mother is a Witch
The Frozen River
Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Not that men wouldn’t enjoy it, but I think as a woman I connected with it more.
Heart the Lover. This isn’t a romance, despite the title. It’s a beautiful exploration of college love, navigating academia as a young woman compared to a young man, and growing up.
The Wedding People. Again, not a romance despite the title. There’s a romance subplot but this one is about complex friendships and messy people that are imperfect but really great. So many female characters here who could have been the villain but instead are just people.
