Not sad exactly. Just that specific atmosphere where everything feels quiet and slightly wistful. The kind of book you read with tea and don't want to end. I loved A Man Called Ove, The Remains of the Day, and Convenience Store Woman. Something in that neighborhood – literary but readable, character driven, maybe a little dry in its humor
Not looking for anything plot-heavy or thriller-adjacent. Just something that feels like a mood

man you nailed that vibe description perfectly. those three books are spot on for what you’re describing too
you might dig something by kent haruf – his writing has that quiet, contemplative thing going on where not much “happens” but somehow everything feels important. or maybe check out some marilynne robinson – she writes these slow burn character studies that just sit with you
also banana yoshimoto has this gentle melancholy thing down pat. her stuff reads like watching rain through a window while wrapped in a blanket
the mood reading thing is real – sometimes you just need a book that matches your headspace rather than trying to shake you out of it
