Suggest me a book set in the Scottish highlands or the Irish moors or iconic UK cities. Bonus points for a romantic undercurrent/tension between the lead protagonists and/or strong supporting cast.
Don't recommend me the series written by a cetrain transphobic author under a pseudonym.

I think all of Lucy Foley’s mysteries are set in the UK, I’ve enjoyed them
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John le Carre mostly takes place in London.
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch.
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurice.
DCI Logan series, by JD Kirk, set around the highlands.
The Rebus series by Ian Rankin are set in Edinburgh, and the ones I have read do make a lot of their setting – I feel like you get a good sense of the city from him.
Penance by Eliza Clark is both a crime novel (though not so much a mystery, since the crime and its culprits are explained early on) and a study of a failing British seaside town.
Val McDermid, Chris Brookmyre, Anne Cleeves are all British crime writers who I feel have written books with a strong sense of place.
Chris Chibnall (creator of Broadchurch) has also written a novel called Death at the White Hart.
E: I keep adding more, but the Morse books by Colin Dexter are set in and around Oxford. The Slough House series (adapted as Slow Horses) by Mick Herron is mostly set in London.
DC Smith Investigation and Kings Lake Investigations series by Peter Grainger
Susan Rylan/Atticus Pünt series by Anthony Horowitz
Hawthorne and Horowitz series by Anthony Horowitz
And as already mentioned, Lucy Foley’s thrillers
The Hunting Party, by Lucy Foley
