I write and I'm writing a book and one of my characters will be a drug addict, I've read a few books before (You'd be home now – Kathleen Glasglow and Junkie – William Burroughs) since psychology and the mentality of people who struggle interest me, not just with drugs. Junkie was great in covering addiction since it was a memoir, but I'm open to all types of books, as long as they delve you into the brain of a drug addict.

Tweak by Nic Sheff really gets into the mental spiral part – its raw as hell and shows how the thought patterns get completely twisted. Also there’s this book called Beautiful Boy but that one is from the dad’s perspective which might give you different angle for writing family dynamics around addiction
The way addicts rationalize everything to themselves is wild when you read these memoirs, like their brain just rewrites reality
