The books I usually read are about sad, lonely or crazy people (sometimes all of the above) being broody and introspective and occasionally acting out. Some of the books I’ve really enjoyed are We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Breakfast of Champions, Sula, My Year of Rest and Relaxation and My Brilliant Friend.
As much as I love these, they tend to make me feel bleak and mopey when read in succession, so I’d like to break them up with a different genre.
I’m looking for fantasy that’s well written and hopeful. I’m currently reading A Wizard of Earthsea and loving it so far! Apart from this, I’ve only read Harry Potter and some of the Narnia books as a child.
I don’t want Romantasy, smut or 600 page epics. I’d prefer standalones or books from series’ that can be read as standalones. Young adult or even children’s books are okay as long as the prose is decent and the characters are well written.
Please give me suggestions!
Edit:
Nothing with SA or mindless violence against women please!
