I used to read widely, but lately I've had to be mindful of certain triggers and that has narrowed my options quite a bit. I've found the genre typically called women's lit fic to be something of a sweet spot for when I know I can't handle anything too heavy – interesting character-driven stories that are still engaging but that I can go into feeling safe that any tougher stuff will be handled with a lighter touch.
As this is new territory for me I've just been following suggestions from one book/author to another. However, the books I've read in this genre so far and the recommendations I'm being fed by my algorithms are overwhelmingly white and I would like to remedy that. So far the only book that really fits into this category by a non-white author that I've read is This Green And Pleasant Land by Ayisha Malik.
To give an idea of my taste, here are a few books/authors I've read and enjoyed in this genre or that have a similarly light touch:
– Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
– The Figurine by Victoria Hislop
– Into The Storm by Cecelia Ahern
– Kate Morton
– Maeve Binchy
– Stephanie Butland bookshop series
– The Secret of Flowers by Sally Page
– The Memory Library by Kate Storey
– Madeleine Wickham
– Close Knit by Jenny Colgan
Translations welcome! Thank you đ
