If you want fiction, Beartown by Fredrik Backman.

On the surface it’s about a small hockey town, but it’s really about pressure, loyalty, parenting, friendship, small-town politics, and how people react when everything blows up. One of the few books where I genuinely cared about almost every character, even the flawed ones.

Also one of those books that stays with you after you finish it. I ended up reading the whole series because I didn’t want to leave that world.

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo completely wrecked me in the best way. it’s about this reclusive old hollywood icon who finally decides to tell her life story to some random young journalist, and the whole thing is just layers upon layers of secrets and glamour and heartbreak. what got me was how it manages to be both this gorgeous love story and also a really sharp look at what it cost women (especially queer women) to survive in that era. plus the writing style just pulls you right in from page one.

My other is 11/22/63 by Stephen King.

Even if you’re not normally a Stephen King fan, this one is worth it. Time travel, history, suspense, romance… it somehow blends all of it together without feeling all over the place.

What I loved most was how immersive it felt. You really feel like you’re living in the late 50s/early 60s with the character. And the ending is one of the best I’ve read in a long time
