I'm sick of believing that I need to perform attractiveness to be worthy of romantic attention. I'd love to believe that is not true. There are SO MANY STORIES – especially in movies – with a hot woman falling for an ugly man. I'd like to see a role reversal. No romantasy please – I want to believe that this is possible within the bounds of OUR universe.

    EDIT: NO MAKEOVER STORIES PLEASE.

One of the all-time classics, Jane Eyre. Jane is supposed to be very plain-looking.

    2. Fosca by Inigo Ugo Tarchetti. 19th century novel where a handsome young cavalry officer falls in love with the extremely ugly daughter of his commander.

Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld is about a female comedy writer for a SNL-type show who watches all the weird-looking guys end up with hot women (like Pete Davidson) and feels irritated.(Then a handsome pop star comes to the show and they develop a relationship.

If you’re ok with historical romance, Alice Coldbreath is so great and she has several with this trope. Her Baseborn Bridegroom specifically, but I know she has a couple others.
