I want like, a slow creeping psychological horror that is pretending to be any other genre where it's like a frog in boiling water and you don't realize until too late that Oh No, This Is A Horror. I've read and enjoyed stuff like You Weren't Meant to Be Human and Our Wives Under the Sea and really liked both. The more unhinged, the better! Open to dark romance/erotica, as well.

Man, I really love specific requests like this, but I can’t think of a single one. Maybe because I always know the genre before I start reading.
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls maybe? It’s by Grady Hendrix (who writes horror) and is classified as horror, so it’s not really a sneaky horror read. But it starts out just as a book about unwed girls and young women who get pregnant and are sent to these “homes” to discretely have their babies. It really reads like standard historical fiction and is actually quite interesting. Until suddenly it takes a very dark turn.
Walking to Aldebaran by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Was expecting a ‘normal’ sci-fi read, am still haunted by it a couple of years later
