i’m looking for two books, as i’ve really been into the whole wild west theme or southern settings in books/movies

for one rec: i really love the movie no country for old men and am looking for a book like that. unsettling, captivating, on the edge of your seat. could be mystery or suspense, but i really enjoy books with strong/articulate writing without being overly dense or wordy!

for the second: honestly just looking for a cowboy love story 🫩 my only problem with the recs i get when i look this up anywhere is getting modern ones/ones that depend too heavily on the lovers in question. something with an interesting story as well as being a love story. or just a book that’s good but happens to have love.

    thank you!

      Some Western favorites of mine:

The Son by Philip Meyer – multigenerational epic

Only Killers and Thieves – more like No Country but not as unsettling

The Sisters Brothers by Philip Meyer

Whiskey When We’re Dry by John Larison

These are more in the No Country direction (one of my all time faves).

      The Revenant by Michael Punke

      True Grit by Charles Portis

The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock

A Simple Plan by Scott Smith (not a western but more a crime thriller with a series of events that is not unlike the way No Country plays out. Also one of my faves)
