I've recently had such an itch to read a treasure hunting book–or tangentially a lost city or a quest. Think Romancing the Stone but as a book. And I'm definitely craving some DnD vibes too if at all possible. I do prefer fantasy, but I'm not opposed to other genres! I like books to have light romance but I don't really want that to be the central plot. I just want something exciting! I also REALLY prefer a little levity and humor, I'm not into the "dark academia" vibe that much, it kind of bums me out.

YA is fine, but I do prefer adult. Middle grade is not ideal, but if it's a good book then it's a good book.

For reference, I think I've seen every treasure hunting movie made in the last 90 years lol. Romancing the Stone is definitely the best, but I do love a National Treasure or Indiana Jones vibe too. And a book like The Mummy would be spectacular! Fair warning, I did try to read The Da Vinci Code a few years back, but it didn't wow me–the narrative just felt kind of spoon fed to me.

Just a few things that I prefer but are not at all mandatory: urban fantasy, queer, POC main characters, monsters (I LOVE monsters), female author, third person, standalone

TW: SA, child death, body horror
