I really like understanding our world better. I really liked Sapians, Thinking Fast and Slow, Of Boys and Men, etc. Anything that’s going to teach me something about our current understanding of science, sociology, etc.
It’s more about the history of modern food science, but I will always recommend *The Poison Squad* by Deborah Blum

For me this is the must-read, the “it makes sense of everything that is happening” book that I draw on all the time to help understand what I’m seeing. The first chapter introducing the mathematical formulae is a bit uphill, but then it’s case studies and anyone can understand it.
