I'm not looking for something too obvious or along the lines of self help. Just a good story of any genre that would be a little inspiring while he's struggling through this.
My dad went through chemo a few years back and the book that really got him through was this collection of short adventure stories – something about escaping into these quick, exciting tales between treatments really helped him. He said it was easier to pick up and put down when he wasn’t feeling great, but still gave him those moments of “hell yeah” when characters overcame crazy odds
Maybe look for something with episodic chapters or short stories so he can read at his own pace? Fiction with characters who push through tough situations without being preachy about it seems to hit diffrently than the obvious “journey” books. Adventure or mystery genres tend to be good distractions while still having that underlying resilience theme
