You know movies that just feel like the era they were made in? Same obviously goes for music.
I want books that FEEL like that era. Yes, Chuck P books obviously fit. No need to recommend him.
It can be any genre. Though, I prefer at least a little literary merit. Just a little.

High Fidelity
Primary Colors
My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis. Loved it. Fun fact : BEE sued and settled out of court with the makers of Zoolander as the plot was too similar to Glamorama.
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but just this morning I was thinking about how huge Cold Mountain was when it came out (1997) and how I never hear anything about it anymore (e.g., I never see it recommended here).
Poisonwood Bible came out in 98 and I associate it with that era
But High Fidelity probably better fits what you’re asking
Secret History came out in 92… but it’s set in mystery time – check out this [review](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1650545460)
Smilla’s Sense of Snow also from 92… but not set in a city full of the types of folks we knew…
Trainspotting, Virgin Suicides… I dunno
