I'm participating in a reading challenge and I need to read a book with a main character who is a lawyer. I've been combing through my TBR and I can't find any that I'm excited about.
I tend to enjoy hopeful books, rather than depressing ones. I typically read genre fiction, including fantasy of all sorts (cozy, epic, portal, romantasy, anything really!), sci-fi (leaning cozy mostly), romance (fine with anything unless it's super super dark), and mysteries.
Thank you in advance for any ideas!

Is it too obvious to suggest To Kill a Mockingbird?
Anything by John Grisham
Anything by Julie James, she’s an ex attorney so she knows her stuff! She writes romance but the FMC and MMCs are equally matched
To Kill a Mockingbird
Under the whispering door by TJ Klune 🙂
Prima facie by Susie Miller is fantastic (deals with some heavy and triggering subjects though)
Max Gladstone’s Craft sequence has magic using lawyers.
If you’re open to nonfiction you should check out The Secret Barrister. It explores defect’s in England’s legal system, which yes is a bummer, but leaves you feeling somewhat hopeful that change and progress can be effected.
Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi is a fun and interesting sci-fi/space opera
The Firm or Rainmaker by John Grisham
Lincoln Lawyer and if you enjoy it there is a whole series and it is part of the Bosch-universe and they have some cross over novels as well.Â
The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose – not everyone loves it but I did, messy, a little diabolical, & easy to binge
Defending Jacob was great.
If you want a book about a lawyer that has absolutely no courtroom drama I suggest The Rest of Our Lives by Benjamin Markovits. The MC is a lawyer as well as a college professor teaching a course on hate speech. It’s a quirky, funny book that reads like a Woody Allen flick.
