Underrated sad books that touch on heavier themes, with beautiful writing.

I recently read Mysterious Skin, which I thought had incredibly haunting writing, and i would like to find some more books that fit into that same kinda realm. I always ask for books that will yk make me cry, but i ALWAYS hear the same few books repeated again and again, so please, if you have any less known but really well written books lmk!!
