i feel stuck in fantasy as a reader and idk how to get out of it…..like fantasy is basically all i read and i do genuinely love it. the sword of kaigen, the poppy war, the mirror visitor series, the bone shard daughter, the ninth rain etc are some of my favourites

but recently i’ve been wanting to read more classics/literary fiction/philosophical books and every time i try i just cannot get into them 😭 like i tried reading one philosophical book recently and after the first page i literally had to stop because i felt so dumb reading it

i don’t wanna force myself to read things i hate just to seem intellectual but i also do wanna branch out a bit

did anyone else go through this? and what books helped you get into more literary/classic fiction without feeling completely lost

oh man i totally get this, was stuck in same loop for ages

maybe try starting with books that have some fantasy-ish elements but are still considered literary? like magical realism stuff could be good bridge. or even classics that have weird/supernatural things happening so it doesn’t feel completely different from what you already love

the philosophy thing is rough though – those books can make anyone feel dumb at first page lol. maybe try ones written in more accessible way instead of jumping into super dense academic stuff right away

i found it helped to just accept that first few literary books might feel slow or weird compared to fantasy pacing, but once you get used to different rhythm it gets easier
