Start with the original book, Lonesome Dove. After that, read whatever other books you want, but I always lean toward publication order.

I’d vote for chronological order. I found lonesome dove to be amazing, probably my favorite book of all time; I think the story was made better knowing the characters backstories and sort of ‘following them’ as they grew.
Also reading the first two books knowing you have lonesome dove yet to come sorta built excitement for me. After lonesome dove streets of Laredo was a letdown. I think all the other books would also have been a letdown if I started with LD.

Read *Lonesome Dove* first because life is short and you can’t miss it. Then maybe read them chronological.
