Hey all,
Looking to get back into fiction books. My attention span got a bit lazy lately and only non fiction books about topics I obsess about keep my attention.
I don't know if I have a type, I am pretty open but I have specifics that tend to annoy me when reading:
.I am not too keen of books where there a either thousand characters, or side/smaller characters that have no soul, no colour.
.I am also not super keen on dystopian or futuristic books.
.finally, I can't really enjoy unnecessary long description of mundane elements just to "help" the reader immerse. Spending a page to describe a lamp post that has no sentimal value to the characters, nor other purpose than force the readers minds feels like lazy writing.
Happy to hear your favourite suggestions!

The Naked and the Dead: Norman Mailer
If you’re open to very long books, I recommend [The Hands of the Emperor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/af2bba9c-8f41-4a3e-b87a-8532a44ccb67) by Victoria Goddard! It’s a beautifully written slice of life book about the personal secretary to the emperor of the world, with a heavy focus on platonic relationships.
Tales of the Ketty Jay. Think steampunk Firefly.
