Looking for slice-of-life that devolves into survival in oppressive society

I am looking for a book where it starts fairly cozy day-to-day with a rising oppressive presence. The characters should be distant from the centers of power and just trying to stay above the rising tide.

Perspectives I am looking for:

• Someone who is just trying to keep their head above water and avoid becoming a target of the rising regime.
• Someone who is a cog in the rising regime that is eventually betrayed by the regime.
• Someone who was already on the fringes of society that the rising regime makes worse.

Ideally this would be a fantasy story, but lit fic or magical realism would also be great options. A grounding in a real world oppression a bonus.
