I’m looking for a book that feels like Miami in the 80s. Scareface, cocaine cowboys vibe? I’m currently reading the Power of the Dog right now. I got a 3 week work trip coming up so I’m looking for something different new.
Miami, by Joan Didion, is a 1987 non-fiction book that explores the city’s complex identity through the lens of Cuban exile, Cold War politics, and racial tensions, revealing a darker side beneath its sunny facade. It functions as a political analysis of the Cuban-American community, examining their role in U.S. foreign policy, the drug trade, and the city’s internal conflicts, making it one of Didion’s most acclaimed and “darkest” works.
