Any books that have a story in which the MC finds out they have powers or becomes in some way powerful, magical, super human. Harry Potter would count. Could be magical or paranormal, like a vampire origin story. Or superhero story. Whatever.
Strongly prefer no romance as a genre.

Been digging through similar stuff lately and stumbled on some gems. The Reckoners series was pretty solid – dude lives in world where superpowers turned everyone evil, then he discovers he might have abilities too. No romance cluttering up the plot either.
Also check Dresden Files if you haven’t already. Wizard discovers his powers gradually through the series and it gets pretty intense. First book is bit rough around edges but it picks up momentum fast.
Oh and Mistborn trilogy hits this perfectly – girl thinks she’s just thief until she learns about magic system that’s actually really unique. Sanderson does great job with power progression that feels earned rather than just handed to character. The magic system alone makes it worth reading even if fantasy isn’t usually your thing.
Stranger In A Strange Land kinda fits with this.
