When I was a kid, reading was one of my favourite pastimes. Unfortunately, as school required me to read more books, they slowly became less and less appealing for me to pick up in my free time. I have avoided making any sort of post asking for suggestions, as I know so many people do the same, and I feel like it probably gets frustrating to answer the same question every day, but I don’t know where to start. To skip to the point, I really want to start reading again. I know this makes the question more difficult to answer, but I don’t really know what type of book I want. I tend to like horror in most media forms and, in the past, tried reading IT before deciding horror novels as a whole weren’t for me, despite that only being one book that I already knew I wasn’t a fan of the movie for. Since trying to start reading, I also found my favourite book of all time so far, No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. I am also interested in any classic books considered must-reads; for example, I read 1984 and enjoyed it. I know this post wasn’t the clearest, but I hope people are able to think of some suggestions to help me. Thank you.

    1. For classics, *Dracula* by Bram Stoker is still a pretty great read.

For more modern horror, you might want to start with some short story collections: you’ll get a lot of different authors and styles, if you don’t like something it’s over quickly, and if you do like something you can look up more books by that author. You may want to try some of *The Best Horror of the Year* anthologies edited by Ellen Datlow.
