I help run a Juneteenth book giveaway every year. We are buying books soon so I’d like some suggestions. We’ve been doing this for a few years and have a lot of repeat “customers” (we give the books away but I can’t think of a better word), so we’d like to get some different titles than we’ve had in the past.
Any age from baby- teen/ ya is great, but we’d especially love suggestions for early chapter books/ elementary school books.
Racial justice can be a theme but doesn’t have to be. We try to have a mix of books about the Black experience/ racial themes, and books where the main characters kinda just happen to be Black.
I’d especially love suggestions from Black people on books that helped them feel seen/ represented growing up.
In the past we’ve had books by authors like Angie Thomas, Nic Stone, Sharon Flake, Kwame Alexander and Jason Reynolds. Also biographies like the “Who Is…” series (and similar).
