I love Harry Potter and was looking for something similar for the longest. I found Nevermoor and fell in love. I demolished all 4 books in a week. I finished the Percy Jackson series. I recently started reading the Amari series. Any other series or books where the main character lives a regular life and is carted away into a detailed fantasy world? I love a cool magic system and whimsy. Thank you!

The Magicians? Honestly, I enjoyed the show better than the books but the books had a lot of good moments, too.
Check out the Fablehaven series!!!
Rivers of London – Ben Aaronovitch – it’s like a grown up Harry Potter mixed with a police procedural. The main character is a London police constable who finds out magic, Demi-gods, and the fae are real. There a dozen or so books in the series plus an accompanying graphic novel series.
The Artemis Fowl series, maybe? I remember them being popular around the same time as Percy Jackson. I really enjoyed the series.
Another book series around the same age audience-wise would be the Charlie Bone series!
The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer
The Chronicles of Narnia series by CS Lewis
The Emily Wilde series by Heather Fawcett (this one might not fit exactly what you are looking for because the series starts with Emily already knowing about magic)
You might like Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo.
Warning- the start of the first book is not great.
