Hi everyone! I’m looking for a new book that might make me tear up while reading. Preferably non-romance. Books I’ve read that fall into this category for me was The Giver, or in more modern literature, Crying in Hmart. Both deal with pains and hardships that are beyond heartbreak in relationships. Thank you in advance 🙂

    1. *The Uninhabitable Earth* –David Wallace Wells

Crushed me. PTSD-level tension for almost a month. Could not sleep. I don’t think people have any sense of just how absolutely, mind-boggling, holy-fucking-shit, mother-fucking fucked we’re are.

Feel something? Terror, desperation and hopelessness all at once.

    2. I’d look up content warnings for these books because most of them made me cry due to some sensitive topics personal to me, but I still think they’re all great:

      * *Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine* by Gail Honeyman (adult contemporary)
      * *In the Dream House* by Carmen Maria Machado (memoir)
      * *Turtles All the Way Down* by John Green (YA contemporary)
      * *We Are Okay* by Nina LaCour (YA contemporary)
      * *My Dark Vanessa* by Kate Elizabeth Russell (adult contemporary)
      * *The Last Tale of the Flower Bride* by Roshani Chokshi (adult contemporary; potential fantasy elements)

Recent read: Chromotherapy, by J Blake (blanking on the first name because I’m the worst) I happened to just find it. I think it’s a real tough look at mental health told through a fantasy.

Usual feel something books I recommend:
Graceland by Chris Albani (every trigger warning in existence for that. Every single one.)
The Hate You Give (sorry again I suck with names) (BLM heavy, but something I think everyone can relate to)
Where the Red Fern Grows- Broke me as a kid and I will randomly cry about it 20 something years later

    4. Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner — talk about pain. Beautiful memoir about the author’s relationship with her mother and her cultural identity.
