Some of my favourites have been:

    – ‘And Then There Were None’ by Agatha Christie

    – ‘The Shuddering’ by Ania Ahlborn

    – ‘The Long Walk’ by Stephen King

    – ‘Behind Her Eyes’ by Sarah Pinborough

    – ‘The Plot’ by Jean Hanff Korelitz

I need books where the author isn’t afraid to follow through with a possibly controversial, messed up ending. Lots of the recent endings have been like ‘Despite what they went through, they found that their lives were better after the fucked up experience, & they lived happily ever after’ 🫠 Thank you for any suggestions.

    1. Try Alice Feeney. Everyone is terrible and almost no one is happy at the end of her books. I love them.

Megan Goldin’s books, too, especially The Escape Room and The Night Swim.

    2. Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber (has a different title now to match a tv show or something)

      The French Girl

      The Roanoke Girls

The Good Daughter (heed the trigger warnings)

      The Butterfly Garden

      Into the Darkest Corner

      The Woods by Harlan Coben

      Plum Island

      The Marsh King’s Daughter

      Beat the Reaper

      Don’t Let Go

      Wicked Girls by Alex Marwood

      The Night Olivia Fell

      Dark Places

      The Last House Guest

      Never Look Back

      The Familiar Dark

      Hairpin Bridge

      What’s Done In Darkness

A Killer in the Family (it was book 5 and I didn’t read the others but I was still ok)

I liked When Lust has conceived by Raimund Auerbach a lot. Lots of twists, great characters, and the ending is indeed surprising! Lots of suspense, but also lots of sex.
