It’s my boyfriend’s dad’s birthday, and I’d love to find him a book as a gift. Problem is, we both read in very different genres, so I’m hoping reddit can guide me.
Here’s what I know:
I know he’s read every Wilbur Smith to date, loves all of them.
The last book he loaned me, apparently one of his favorites, was *Dragons & Butterflies – Sentenced To Die, Choosing To Live* by
Shani Krebs. It follows an ex South African soldier sentenced to death in Thailand for drug trafficking.
The other books I’ve seen peppering the house are the action packed, grizzled male MC, often set in Africa.
Are there any recent releases along that line? Or any new author you could recommend. Thanks in advance!

Does he have much Matthew Reilly in his collection?
*The Elephant Whisperer* –Lawrence Anthony
*Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage* –Alfred Lansing
*Horizon* –Barry Lopez
*The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival* –John Valliant
As a 53 year old dude likely in the same age group as the BF dad, I’m almost positive these will hit just right.
Note, all four of these are nonfiction, but that means they’re timeless. Either classics or future classics.
Grizzled, macho, manly stories about man vs nature? Check, check, check, check.
