Are there any books where the mc becomes a religious zealot over the course of the plot?

I’ve seen a lot of stories where characters are religious nutcases, but are there any stories where the main character/ a pov character goes from someone with a healthy relationship with religion to whole on ‘die in god’s name’ zealot?
