Hi! This is my first time posting here. I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a historical horror or thriller type novel? I like to read about the late 1800s up to 1940s I’d say. I find the settings so appealing and cozy somehow, and do enjoy history from that time. I really like scary (ghosts or killer) stories or a mystery with a great twist! I read a LOT of thrillers and am just looking to combine the two at this time. Any help is appreciated!

You might like Sarah Waters books! Beautiful written prose, thrillers, semi supernatural at least the book Affinity is
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
I don’t know if these suggestions are ‘cozy‘ but they are historical thrillers.
The Alienist by Caleb Carr
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Ecco
Maybe Beloved by Toni Morrison?
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier might be up your alley. It’s a gothic thriller, and one of my favourite books (so I might be a little biased). If you like to focus on the settings, this book is very focused on location. It’s not scary per se, but it has a lot of intrigue and secrets.
Maybe The Keep by F Paul Wilson
