I really love books where you are immersed in the story: Confederacy of Dunces, city of girls, born a crime, city of thieves, The Great Alone, 11/22/63. Can you suggest more?

I love books where you are in that world. So you open the cover and you are suddenly in New Orleans or New York City or Alaska or Leningrad, any kind of books where you are immersed in situation, you can get lost in the characters and the book and the writing. I don’t care for Sci-Fi but I like fiction and non fiction. Can you suggest books where as soon as you open the cover you are immersed in that world?
