I love Medusa stories, but just to share my crackpot theory: Medusa mythology evolved from gorgonian iconography. Giving Medusa a backstory and a personality is the ancient equivalent of the modern tendency to turn everyday items into waifus. Medusa is basically “Live Laugh Love”-chan.
