Hey everyone, I’m on the lookout for a book that captures the essence of preserving one’s innocence and inner child, especially as life seems to be speeding by at 21. I often feel like an outcast among my friends who enjoy activities like drinking and smoking, and the fear of relationships weighs on me as I worry about potentially hurting myself or others. I also like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, even though some of my friends may find it weird. I sometimes feel alone due to the lack of common interests with my friends. Any recommendations or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Book from awhile back, The Peter Pan Syndrome. Also two from Robert Bly, Iron John and The Sibling Society.
The Catcher in the Rye is a classic about this, but I didn’t like it that much because I did not empathize with the main character. It’s definitely one of those love-it-or-hate-it kinds of books.
[The Mercy of Theseus](https://escapepod.org/2014/12/19/ep472-mercy-theseus/). Not a novel, but a short story about trying to hold on to childhood and the way things used to be.
“The Catcher in the Rye,” by J.D. Salinger
“The Prodigy,” by Hermann Hesse
Little Women!
