I like historical fiction books that deal with philosophical themes, social criticism, the exploration of human nature, themes such as justice/redemption/morality, the nature of good and evil, nature vs nurture etc.
I generally dislike fantasy, YA and science-fiction, as well as most books that are set in the present day.
Here are some of my favorites off the top of my head:
* Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
* Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
* The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky
* The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
* The Quack by Tadeusz-Dolega Mostowicz
* The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
* War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
Many thanks in advance!
