Looking for recommendations for post apocalyptic books in the vein of Mad Max, Fallout, A Boy And His Dog. I’ve only read a few, The Stand, Dark Tower (parts of the series fit), have a short story collection called Wastelands but it’s hit and miss. More interested in the roaming through different areas of the world, not opposed to military and sci-fi aspects. Thanks!

The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
Another vote for the road. Fantastic book
Swan Song by Robert McCammon is my favorite of this genre. It’s pretty brutal but you won’t want to put it down.
Red Rising
*Zone One* by Colson Whitehead. It’s a literary novel about the zombie apocalypse. To me, it works brilliantly on both levels. But beware, after reading you may suffer from PASD (Post Apocalyptic Stress Disorder).
Station Eleven
If you want an apocalyptic McCarthy, read blood meridian. The road is … extremely tame for McCarthy. Really wasn’t impressed.
Or read {{canticle for Leibovitz}}!
Red hill, Jamie McGuire
Margaret Atwood’s Maddadam trilogy.
The Dog Stars by Peter Heller.
The Book of Koli by M R Carey
*The Passage Trilogy* – Justin Cronin.
Seed by Rob Zeigler is pretty gritty stuff. Steeped in atmosphere, a shame he hasn’t written more.
Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins
Bannerless by Carrie Vaughn
Seveneves by Neil Stephenson
A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers
These Fragile Graces, This Fugitive Heart by Izzy Wasserstein
The Silo series.
