Not sure if this is in the “whimsical” category but have you read Fairy Tale by Stephen King? Main character goes on a fantastic adventure! Also, The Night Circus by Morgenstern – lots of fantasy adventure.

Not really an adventure, but ***The House on the Cerulean Sea*** by TJ Klune is THE found family trope written – like, there’s nothing cuter than this book.
