Easier French books

Hello – I'm working on improving my French (native English speaker here) and I'm curious about intermediate level French books I can read. Please suggest some that are easy to read so I'm not too confused by the grammar or slang, and not reaching for the dictionary every other word. I think I read Candide in French a long time ago, which was fairly simple prose, and I think I've read Gigi by Colette. Shorter books would be great, or dual-language books with French and English on facing pages. I'm open to ready children's book or YA books, if they have those in France. Thank you!
