I find this weird and embarrasing, i indeed liked the show on netflix cause it had me shaking my head and rolling my eyes and laughing and even yelling at Betty. I need a book like that yes. just like that.
Not a romance, but The Society of Shame by Jane Roper if you enjoy the second-embarrassment and dramatic hijinks to get out of awkward situations from Ugly Betty. The main character (not a spoiler) goes through transformations herself and questions how these changes affect who she is and her role in life.

Not a book, but a tv series, but Jane the Virgin kind of gave me the same vibes as Ugly Betty.
