After playing Baldur's Gate III, I'd like to read a novel that reads as a group of friends playing D&D campaign with a strong emphasis on a cast of interesting characters having to work as a team. What's important to me is that the humour should balance dark moments. I'm not in the mood for another dark fantasy world where every character is morally grey and set up for failure or supposed realism excuses excessive depictions of misogyny.

    1. I can only think of:

      – [Clockwork Boys ](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36618062-clockwork-boys?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=VZAHvq8spK&rank=1)by T. Kingfisher: Light fantasy/adventure. It feels very DnD-y and it’s HILARIOUS.

      – [The Between](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53140331-the-between?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=KTSubH1F2p&rank=1) by Ryan Leslie: Horror/adventure book that’s inspired by text-based RPG. It has humor and most characters have a ‘role’ (like rogue/seeker/etc. it’s good very cool and unique worldbuilding!).
