I’m sure there are a million suggestions and other posts, so thanks for your patience. I want a book or series that I will want to just tear through. I’m pretty basic, I think, when it comes to the fantasy I’ve read, but it doesn’t scare me. I also just don’t know where to start.

Fantasy I’ve enjoyed (no judgement please!): LOTR, Game of Thrones (although I never read the whole series), Harry Potter, The Priory of the Orange Tree, Fourth Wing (no judgement!), The Poppy Wars

Didn’t love as much: Could not get into the ACOTAR series, didn’t love The Golden Compass (but maybe I just need to try again), struggled through Dune (more sci-fi).

Have never read Terry Pratchett or Brandon Sanderson. Also I love anything with dragons, and never upset about a good romance, just to throw that out there.

I literally just finished Reign & Ruin (Book 1 in the Mages of the Wheel series) a few hours ago and am still reeling over the pure artistry I just read. Intricate world building, the most unique magic system, clever verbal sparring between the MMC and FMC, great political intrigue, and the most natural and tender romance to top it off. It’s really underrated and I hope more people would pick it up.

    2. Just to state the obvious: *A Day of Fallen Night*, which is the prequel to *The Priory of the Orange Tree*

Julie Kagawa’s *Shadow of the Fox* trilogy was great, and it has a dragon as one of the central plot points

R.A. Salvatore’s Dark Elf trilogy, beginning with *Homeland*, was really compelling. It’s the start of the larger Legend of Drizzt series, but in my opinion, Salvatore is at his strongest when he’s writing dark elf culture with Drizzt as a counterpoint, rather than writing about Drizzt staying away from dark elf culture.

I love Sanderson’s work, but most of it didn’t really hook me right from the start, and the ones that did only did so because they were building on earlier works. I usually recommend *Warbreaker* as a starting point, since it’s a standalone, and doesn’t have the roughness of his earlier works like *Elantris* and *Mistborn*, but it’s still a slow burn.

    3. Hyperion by Dan Simmons. I was obsessed. Sci-fi, but trust me you will never forget the book. It’s a series of stories about the bizarre planet.

    4. **”The Stormlight Archive” by Brandon Sanderson.** A sweeping epic filled with vivid characters, intense battles, and deep lore. Perfect for fans of sprawling, intricate fantasy.

I also run a weekly newsletter where I share book recommendations like this if you are interested. No Spams!
