You could try The Cuckoo’s calling by Robert Galbraith (J.K.Rowling). It’s an easy read, and fits the mystery, crime, thriller, detective genres. If you like it, you can continue into the Strike series and read the 6 more books that follow.

There are so mny different thriller categories out there, I hope you find something you enjoy. Here are some different books I enjoyed:
The Local by Joey Hartstone – courtroom thriller about a patent lawyer in his first criminal case. Not really tense, a nice and easy thriller.
Delta-v by Daniel Suarez – this is a techno-thriller (technology heavy thriller). This book is about space and asteroid mining. It focuses a little more on technology than the average thriller, but is very readable and well researched.
Angels and Deamons by Dan Brown – a mystery thriller, a little darker than the other two, but still no where near horror. It’s about symbols and a professor that gets somehow thrown into there and tries to solve the mystery.
The Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffery Deaver, the first book is The Bone Collector – crime/mystery thriller. The series centers around a quadruplegic forensic scientist that works with the NYPD. The team mostly try to cath serial killers and the crime scenes and bodies are sometimes described in detail. The author writes books with a lot of plot twists.
