Hello! I feel a reading slump creeping up on me after the last book I've read so I'm trying to avoid it by reading something drastically different. I usually tend to stay within the realm of Fantasy Romance, and in the past two weeks I've read Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries (this was great) and Hunted by Erica Woods (a little less great).
I suddenly have an itch for something completely different, but I don't even know where to start since I'm not really used to venturing outside of my usual genre.

I guess I really don't feel like reading romance right now. Or if there is romance, I'd rather it be M/M or F/F. I need a palate cleanser that is outside of my usual comfort zone. Maybe something with a mystery, or a niche setting, or idk maybe even sci-fi. I think I'd prefer a standalone, but a series is good too, as long as the first book is under 400 pages. What is most important is that the book is a page-turner, because if it doesn't grip me immediately I'm afraid I'll give up and fall into the reading slump! So any super good books that require a lot of brain power are not it, right now. I'm definitely okay with YA. I prefer female protagonists but I can totally bend on that.

So, to summarize: Something short(-ish), a pageturner, light/no romance, maybe a mystery vibe, and preferably a strong female protagonist. Also, bonus points for cool sidekicks or pets. If you think of anything else that you think would help me stave off this reading slump and it doesn't completely fit my demands, feel free to recommend it anyway! 🙂
