Fiction or nonfiction… I have just immigrated to my husband’s home country where I don’t know anyone and I don’t speak the language all that well. I’d love to read a book about someone going through something like this.
A book I loved that really hit home with this concept was Happiness Falls by Angie Kim. The mother is a highly accomplished Korean immigrant whose own experience with feeling unknown and unable to express her true self in a foreign language parallels her autistic nonverbal son’s.
