My tastes are very niche, but not in a Christian Grey way. In an autistic/ADHD way, ahahaha. Despite haveing a bachelor’s degree in English, I struggle to finish most books, because they don’t usually make me feel anything. I find myself checking how many pages I have left. I also struggle with films, but will happily listen to music or watch comedians for hours on end. I have really enjoyed certain titles though. I loved Bullet Park by John Cheever, The Catcher in the Rye and my favourite author is a very peculiar British guy called Will Self. Sometimes he appears on television programs, but he recieves polarizing reviews for his use of obscure and polysyllabic words. It’s one of the things I love about him. I like books written by subversive oddballs, and I love poetry. Anything penned by writers who could eloquently articulate what it’s like to be both depressed and unusually passionate about certain things. I’ll take a beautifully written sentence, that illuminates my soul and the human relationships in my life over a “good story” any day. I’m told this makes me especially suited to reading modernist novels, but I’m nervous about facing dissapointment. I think I’m looking for books that validate my sense of identity. I know he’s not in everyone’s good books elately, but I obsess over Morrissey’s lyrics, y’know? I’m that kinda guy. I’d hate to pick up something that I have high expectations of, only to be dissapointed. Thank you for reading this.
