Until a few years ago I devoured (medical) thrillers, my favourite series was **Rizzoli & Isles**. I liked that the books were exciting enough to read through it in a few days.
But as I got older, I now just cannot stand the violence and graphic content anymore and can’t even bring myself to read the latest Rizzoli & Isles despite I loved the series so much.
So I’m looking for gripping books that don’t contain (that much) graphic content about detailed murder or abuse but keep me hooked to finish it. Also I love some unexpected turns.
I recently read **The Housemaid** by Freida McFadden and found the amount of violence absolutely tolerable, and for me it was gripping enough that I had to finish it in one day.
I also enjoyed **The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches** and **We Were Liars**, so you see I’m not attached to the Psychological/Medical Thriller Genre, I’m just looking for a gripping book with unexpected turns, that I can read without getting nightmares.
