I’ve been burnt out on fantasy, and I thought the solution was to fly through a bunch of low stakes romances but I keep dnfing every book I pick up and nothing is holding my interest so I’m looking for a change of pace.
Recently, I’ve found that the exploration of familial relationships is something that really holds my focus. Mother/daughter and father/son relationships in particular. (The relationship between two sisters or two brothers fascinates me too. I’m not sure why mother/son, father/daughter, or brother/sister relationships don’t do it for me, I mean, there’s a clear pattern there, but I’ve got no clue).
Some examples I can think of off the top of my head:
– Marilla and Anne in “Anne of Green Gables” (Although a lot of my love for it is tied in the show “Anne with an E”)
– Charles and Cyril in “The Heart’s Invisible Furies”
– Randall and Kevin in the TV Show “This Is us”
Two of these feature adoptive parents, and the other, an adopted sibling, I’ve just noticed, and that makes a lot of sense.
So, yeah, I’d really appreciate any recs that focus on these kinds of relationships. It doesn’t need to be the main focus, I know that would narrow the list down quite a bit, but any that you think were done particularly well.

Do the relationships need to be adoptive, or are you also interested in blood family?
