I have a book club and our genre of the month is mystery. One of the members suggested trying a non-conventional mystery book, where the focus of the book isn’t really sleuthing or a whodunit, but instead a more mysterious feel where we are taken along as the protagonist experiences all that they experience. Of course, I would believe that there still needs to be some type of surprise or plot twist. I’m not really versed in the mystery genre to know any type of titles or authors that would be along this line.
What are your suggestions?

I who have never known men by Jacqueline Harpman
I feel like if you look more in the “Thriller” category that might be good. Those books tend to be more about a secrete the protagonist is trying to learn about than a “Who killed blah blah” or just generally stay away from detective novels.
Hidden Pictures by Jason Relulak is kind of an unconventional mystery, maybe try that.
Maybe also look at: This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno or Boy Parts by Eliza Clark.
